On Thursday, I covered the Martinsville Artesians varsity baseball team. The Arties won, 9-7, although the Greenwood Woodmen nearly made a comeback in the last few innings. Coach Mike Schwartzentruber said that the fact the team held on and won shows that the players have improved from years past. However, he added that the still have room for improvement, saying:
We’ve got a lot of juniors and seniors now that have been playing varsity for two or three years for us. So it’s time for them to play like veterans. … I think we can get a lot more out of them. But I think we’ve made improvements the first for games already, so I just think that’s going to keep going that way. And I think we’ve got a chance to be pretty good. Just getting those guys to believe it, too, is what we’re working on.
